Organising mode05 there is no specific educational model we (Ulrike and Martin) have in mind and think of as being suitable for future dance/choreography education. There are only questions concerning existing structures that most of the time are ideological (because based on a few person’s knowledge about dance/ choreography education), instructive (in how knowledge is gained or transmitted), hierarchic (in terms of hierarchies of knowledge, hierarchies between students and teachers, etc.) and/or genre-specific (mostly disconnecting “theory†and “practiceâ€).
We would like to find out if something else is possible and how this might look like. What we want to do is to facilitate a shared process of knowledge production and critical exchange on the issue.
Within mode05 there will be many motivations coming together. First of all, there is the motivation of each participant and the motivations of the organisers. And there will be a motivation that will be articulated in the process of mode05. Each set of motivations is important to us and we would like to start a process of articulating them by asking a few questions:
What do we want to do organising or participating in a project like mode05? What is our personal approach to and experience with dance/choreography education? What is it that we criticise and would like to question or change? How to get there? Why mode05? What do we want to know/ find out about dance/choreography education? What do we already know about dance/ choreography education? What do we think of as being relevant to bring in and make use of in order to produce more knowledge on the issue?
