public?

To all the participants of mode 05

Dear Friends and Colleges,

whatever your "arguments" for non public work are, ...

The longer it takes to know if there is a public something, the more impossible it gets to come there.
It is of big interest of many others what the discussions are coming to. It cant be the aim to create a internal club which makes discourses, has information and the rest not.
This project you are working on is bigger then the little world of ... i dont know what, and what i think i will not say.
I mean this project is not for itself, it is for the dance world.
It can be easy as people are invited to have a coffee, no big deal. No final version for which you need to decide for only one result. Just open. Or are you scared of something?

Greetings and lots of fun,

Thomas

i don't have the impression, people here in potsdam are afraid of something. it rather seems that there are two aspects to the problem: one is the problem of commodification of artistic processes; it seems that some of the ideas of "new economy" have seeped into artistic practice and into the education of dancers/choreographers. almost all existing dance/choreography schools in europe are currently busy with presenting themselves as places of interesting art production or production of interesting artists and artistic projects that can be placed on the "market". it seems important for mode05 to clearly reject this idea that also implies efficiency in uses of time and money. we think that educational and artistic endeavours are not efficient and therefore need to be protected from commodification. any kind of open situation of mode05 would immediately imply a sense of commodifying the ideas and thoughts exchanged here.
now the other side: we are aware that our peers within the field of dance/choreography actually have another interest than "new economy" would have. i believe that our colleagues' would like to share ideas and exchange thoughts on the issue. the solution we are offering at the moment is this website. whether the saturday will be open or not, i am not able to predict. most probably it won't be. we are aware of the fact that this is sort of demanding. but maybe the above explanation of the other aspect makes our choice a bit more transparent...

Sorry, it just doesnt make sense to me. What does the avoiding of "commodity" and "market" has to do with a wider range of exchange?
Avoiding the open situation means its for a club, not for everybody.
Thanks.

we are not avoiding the open situation. this website is open. let's regard the current situation not as a club but as a working session that unfolds on this website and will have public formats in the widening of this site, in the printed publication and in a presentation latest at the tanzkongress next spring.
the problem of in- and exclusion is part of almost any kind of process, and we are pretty aware of it.
i think that already this blog-dialogue is more transparent than many other processes i have encountered.

why should i participate in the blogging, if i am not invited by you? Neither to the real thing, nor to a coffee.
Anyway, if you aware of the in exclusion thing, then do something about it.
Still i think that very unclear reasons close it off, because i didnt hear jet any which make sense. But i get bored of it, good luck. I do mine, you do yours.

dear thomas,
if none of the aspects make any sense to you i am sorry to have put energy in trying to explain. that you get bored of "it" so quickly, i find a pity.
ours is not ours. yours is not yours.
